British photographer Julia Margaret Cameron (1815-1879) only took up photography at the age of 48 with a gifted camera and remained active for about a decade. However, even though not properly appreciated at her own time, today she is one of the most recognized portrait photographers and has influenced numerous modern artists.
I love how her passion for photography and capturing the beauty she saw was a true obsession rather than a job or a hobby, and when everyone else was tired of all that, she never was! She made her subjects pose countless times and the results are always incredibly intimate and unconventional. Then her pre-raphaelite influences are also a big plus for me. The world of photography can feel very lucky that her work was pulled out of oblivion in 1948 by Gernsheim.
